Prenatal

Pregnancy is one of the most impressionable times in a woman’s life. Our goal is to prepare you mentally, physically and emotionally for birth & thereafter.

Labor & Delivery

Midwife literally means with woman. We will provide ongoing assessment and monitoring throughout labor, and create the environment for a safe delivery.

Postpartum

After you birth your baby, you are forever postpartum. We ensure a network of support so that you and your family can begin your new journey with an ease of mind.

Prenatal

What to expect (in a home-like environment):

  • Health screenings (i.e. vital signs, iron levels, gestational diabetes, group B strep, metabolic testing)

  • Prenatal education

    • Normal pregnancy changes

    • Nutrition

    • Mental & emotional health

    • Exercise

    • Sexuality

    • Home & work life

    • Environmental hazards

    • Relief for common complaints

    • Signs of labor & how to prepare

    • Birth preferences, and more

  • Listening to and feeling baby’s in the pelvis

  • Time for questions

  • Referral to other providers if warranted

  • Visit schedule similar to:

    • Initial visit between weeks 8-12

    • Monthly visits between weeks 13-28

    • Bi-weekly visits between weeks 29 and 36

    • Weekly visits weeks 37+ (with additional visits as needed between 40 and 42 weeks)

Birth

What to expect (in your home):

  • Set up of your birth space at 36 weeks

  • Ongoing maternal-newborn assessment

  • Support for a physiological vaginal birth

  • Non-pharmacological pain management (i.e homeopathic remedies)

  • Management of complications (i.e shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage) if necessary or transfer of care to a higher-level facility

  • Support with physical stabilization after birth, bonding, and breastfeeding

  • Delayed cord clamping

  • A head-to-toe newborn exam, including baby’s weight and measurement and the administration of vitamin K and erythromycin, if given consent

  • Postpartum instructions for optimal healing

Postpartum

What to expect:

  • A 24, 72 hour and 2 week home visit

    • A critical congenital heart defect screening (CCHD) for your newborn, along with a metabolic screening test (aka PKU) are routinely performed at 24 hours

  • A 6 week and 6 month in-office postpartum visit

    • An Edinburgh depression screening is routinely performed at 6 weeks

  • Focus areas include breastfeeding, sexuality and family planning, mood and mental wellbeing, nutrition, sleep, movement and exercise

  • Management or referral for any complications that arise
